How to Pick an Aircraft Hose
Know the Hose Basics
Main Hose for Brake/Hydraulic Use: 666, 303, AE466, and AE246 (Note only Teflon lined hose are applicable for Skydrol – i.e. 666 & AE246)
Main Hose for Fuel and Oil: 666, 303, AE466, AE246, and AE701
Main Hose for Low Pressure/Vacuum/Pitot Static/Drain Lines: 306
303 Cloth Braid Rubber Hose – Mainly used on brake and hydraulic applications rated up to 3000 psi (-4 size) working pressure. Also commonly used for fuel and oil. |
|
666 Stainless Steel Teflon Hose – Mainly used for fuel and oil. Can be used for medium pressure hydraulic applications up to 1500 psi (-4 size) working pressure. Unlimited Shelf life and higher operating temperature than rubber hose. |
|
AE701 Stainless Steel Rubber Hose – Offers lightweight construction and superior bend radius. Primarily used in fuel and oil applications. Rated to 1500 psi (-4 size) working pressure. |
|
AE246 High Pressure Stainless Steel Teflon Hose – Mainly used on brake and hydraulic applications rated up to 3000 psi (-4 size) working pressure. |
|
AE466 Integral Firesleeve Stainless Steel Teflon Hose – Mainly used for fuel and oil. Has built in, easy to clean, molded firesleeve. Can be used for medium pressure hydraulic applications up to 1500 psi (-4 size) working pressure. Unlimited Shelf life and higher operating temperature than rubber hose. |
|
306 Low Pressure Rubber Hose – Mainly used for Vacuum Systems, Pitot Static and Drain lines. Ends are coupled with end fittings and/or clamps. |
Understand TSO Types
At Specialty Hose we know that Certification is vital when selecting and purchasing aircraft parts. FAA TSO Certification is the standard for Aircraft Hose Assemblies, and we are here to walk you through what this means.
A Technical Standard Order (TSO) is a minimum performance standard issued by the United States Federal Aviation Administration.
For Aircraft Hose Assemblies the applicable TSOs are:
TSO-C53a for fuel and engine oil systems
TSO-C75 for hydraulic fluid systems.
The FAA has given Eaton Aerospace Corporation approval to fabricate hose assemblies to TSO-C53a and TSO-C75. Eaton Aerospace has lawfully extended that approval to Specialty Hose Aerospace Corp. as we have met extensive requirements.
TSO-C53a and TSO-C75 have Type classifications that can be very informative when compared to the TSO documentation the FAA has available for your viewing. This information can be important when considering a change of Hose Type.
Specialty Hose cannot determine what is Airworthy for your specific application, but it is recommended that any new TSO Certified Hose meets or exceeds the TSO Certification of the hose it is replacing, and we would be happy to help you determine what that is.
Teflon Hose has no shelf life and in many cases can offer superior value and performance. Always check with the manufacturer of the equipment before changing hose types.
